• The Ministry of Forestry Republic of Indonesia Launches Legal Timber Certification in Indonesia

    The Ministry of Forestry (MoF) in cooperation with the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy launched Verfifikasi Timber Legality Information System. This system was established to support the implementation of the Timber Legality Verification Certificate (SVLK).

    SVLK is one of the efforts to ensure the legality of timber traded. Understandably, the intensity of the illegal timber trade in the international market which is closely related to the activities of illegal logging in wood-producing countries, including Indonesia.

    “For the purpose of export, the Ministry has developed a Legality Verification Certificate (SVLK) that operate online related to the issuance of V-Legal,” said Minister of Forestry Zulkifli Hasan in Wanabakti Mangala Auditorium Building, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (1/8).

    This system replaces the endorsement mechanism of export wood and wood products by the Agency for Rehabilitation of Forest Industries. SILK connected with INATRADE system at the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Trade, and will lead to the Indonesian National Single Window portal (INSW) in the Directorate General of Customs, Ministry of Finance for export registration.

    Zulkifli added Indonesia as one of the tropical timber producer countries, it will remain on its commitment to provide timber legality assurance through the Timber Legality Verification Certificate (SVLK) within the framework of voulentary Partnership Agreement (VPA).

    “SVLK is an instrument used by the Government of Indonesia to ensure the legality of Indonesian timber, and as an instrument is in compliance with the principle of legality in the administration and management of forests in Indonesia,” said Zulkifli.

    Moreover he said, TLVS also aims to improve the welfare of the public, increase compliance with regulations and establish a legal and cultural use of the product in order to enhance the dignity of the nation.

    “TLVS well as answering the trend in the international wood trade which require proof of legality, such as the Americans with ‘Amendment of the Lacey Act’, the European Union with ‘EU Timber Regulation’, Australia with the ‘Prohibition Bill’ and Japan with ‘Green Konyuho’ or Goho Wood ‘ , “he concluded.
