• Tage Ship Ready to Serve Jakarta-Los Angeles Container Route

    JAKARTA – Tanjung Priok Port returns the arrival of a giant container vessel that can accommodate 10,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit). Large ships are expected to reduce container shipping costs while increasing the competitiveness of national export products.

    Based on business monitoring at Tanjung Priok Port, large vessels leaning against the CMA CGM Tage. This Malta-flagged ship will carry cargo from Jakarta to Los Angeles, United States.

    According to the plan, President Joko Widodo will review port infrastructure as well as export discharges transported by CMA CGM Tage ship. To note, this ship is one of the vessels that routinely serve direct call or Jakarta-Los Angeles direct voyage.

    President Director of Pelindo II, Elvyn G. Masassya, said that the presence of large ships to Tanjung Priok shows that the company is ready to manage the largest port of loading and unloading in Indonesia.

    “Supported with IT System and existing modern equipment, we are working as effectively and efficiently as possible to support export growth,” he said in a written statement on Tuesday (5/15/2018).

    In addition to the CMA CGM Tage ship, several large vessels (mother vessels) will also be routinely docked at Tanjung Priok, such as Post Panamax APL Salalah and Vessel Pelleas generation.

    APL Ship Salalah first stop on May 3, 2018 and then at the terminal Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) with up to 1666 TEUs and loaded 2818 TEUs. As a result, the total loading and unloading of the vessel reached 4,484 TEUs in its maiden voyage to Indonesia

    Elvyn said the giant ships offer more competitive freight services and faster delivery times, potentially increasing the competitiveness of Indonesian export products, particularly in the United States.

    Previously, President Director of CMA-CGM Indonesia Farid Belbouab, said demand for services for JAX Services route continues to grow so that it brought in larger vessels. This route was officially opened in April 2017.

    “We started with 8,000 TEUs since last year and the results are very successful, gradually bringing larger ships, 9,000 TEUs and 10,000 TEUs, even close to 11,000 TEUs,” he explained.
