• SIA & Air New Zealand Add Flight Route

    JAKARTA – Singapore Airlines and Air New Zealand announced the launch of three daily flights with New Zealand-Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington routes starting from October 28, 2017.

    Singapore Airlines Senior Vice President of Marketing Planning, Tan Kai Ping, said Singapore Airlines (SIA) with Air New Zealand has benefited customers through more capacity, options, updated connections and codeshare collaboration destinations.

    “The newest flight to Auckland will increase the convenience for our customers and demonstrate our commitment to the market in New Zealand,” Tan Kai Ping said in a press release on Friday (8/12).

    Air New Zealand Chief Strategy, Networks and Alliances Officer, Nick Judd expects new services and this revised schedule can attract travelers to and from Europe, India and Southeast Asia. This is considering Changi Airport, Singapore has been named the Best Airport aka World’s Best Airport by Skytrax for the last five years.

    “Coupled with the current duration of European service connections for approximately three hours, it makes a very convenient temporary stop for travelers in both destinations,” Nick Judd said.

    The addition of this flight route increases the capacity of the route by 40% and adds more than 165,000 seats annually between the two cities. Additional airline services, along with updates to current schedules, will shorten connection times as well as increased connectivity of the airline network through the Singapore hub.

    This latest service will operate daily during the peak period of Winter from October 28, 2018 – March 30, 2019, and five times each week during the Summer period from March 31, 2019 – October 26, 2019.

    During the peak period, the two airlines will jointly operate 35 round-trip flights a week between Singapore and New Zealand, including Christchurch and Wellington flights.

    Under their joint venture alliance that entered into force in January 2015, the two airlines will continue to operate a daily round-trip service on the Singapore-Auckland route, with the third service operated by Singapore Airlines during the winter and Air New Zealand over summer.

    Singapore Airlines will operate the Airbus A380 and Boeing 777-300ER variants, suitably in season. Meanwhile, Air New Zealand will operate the latest configuration of the 787-9 aircraft, which offers more Premium Economy and Business Premier seats, compared to the current 787-9 fleet.

    Flights for Singapore-Auckland services will be available gradually through various booking channels starting from December 8, 2017.
