JAKARTA – Afghanistan and Indonesia are said to have established a committee to open air traffic between the two countries.

Officials at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Afghanistan said that the two sides have talked about the plan to open an air corridor and will take further steps.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Afghanistan Quqandi said that with the air corridor with Indonesia, Afghanistan’s exports will increase significantly.

“We have spoken publicly about this and there are committees in each country to export our best products,” Quqandi said as quoted from https://www.tolonews.com, Tuesday (6/2/2017).

Meanwhile, the Afghan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) said that Indonesia is a good market for Afghan products. With the air corridor, Afghan traders will export dried fruits, fresh fruit, carpets, and herbal remedies to Indonesia.

Air cargo is important, especially when our neighbors do not allow us to use its territory to reach the ocean, if we ship goods by air, it will be more efficient and cheaper,” ACCI spokesman Seyam Pesarlay said.

Currently Afghanistan has one air cargo corridor with India and wants to build air corridors with five other countries, including Indonesia.

According to the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Afghanistan, currently the country’s trade volume with Indonesia is worth US $ 6 million.

Meanwhile, the presidential palace said that since the opening of the air corridor between Afghanistan and India, more than 1,000 tons of goods have been exported to India via 65 flights.

The presidential palace says that an air cargo corridor to Kazakhstan will begin next week.

“We are trying to launch the first flight to Kazakhstan next week,” said Samir Rasa, Head of Media Office for the President’s Senior Adviser.
