SEMARANG – Semarang Container Terminal records up to July 2017 loading and unloading of 367,869 twenty foot equivalent units (TEUs). The company itself is targeting to serve 677,669 TEUs.

Semarang Container Operations and Commercial Manager Semarang (TPKS) Taufiq Rachman said that TPKS currently has the capability to serve 800,000 TEUs per year. However, the capacity has not been fully utilized by the business actors because the new capacity is around 600,000 TEUs.

“To improve our service, we will continue to improve as much as possible, such as raising seaway up to the addition of ARTG cranes,” said Taufiq in Semarang, Central Java, on Tuesday (29/8/2017).

Automated rubber tired gantry (ARTG) crane is a container lifter onto trucks. Meanwhile, until July 2017 the length of time of dloading time in TPKS reaches 5.5 days.

Taufiq said that if the breakdown is done, PTKS only contributes 0.52 days in this process when removing goods from the ship and transferring them to the truck. TPKS Semarang is under PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) III.

“The rest is in the hands of service users. Maybe the administrative file is not complete so it has not received approval for the expenditure of goods or it could also limit the warehouse so choose to pile up at the port, “said Taufiq.

Chairman of the DPC of the Indonesian National Shipowners Association (INSA) Semarang, Ridwan, said that the business world expects TPKS to continue to modernize to facilitate services for businesses especially for supporting facilities such as cranes and other access.

He also highlighted the port-based electronic service (Inaport) which was implemented in Semarang on August 22 by the Ministry of Transportation.

He expects the authority to provide support for INSA members, especially those in the people’s ports. Evaluation conducted by the ship owner entrepreneurs in Semarang noted there are still difficulties in the process of downloading documents by members. “Finally they keep coming to the authority office and taking care of the manual.”
