• Indonesian National Shipping (Pelni) Release Cargo Reservation Application

JAKARTA – PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia (Persero) or Pelni through its subsidiary PT Sarana Bandar Nasional released a cargo ordering application to facilitate service users. For the initial phase, Pelni will serve 12 destination cities and deploy three fleets of vessels.

Pelni Transport and Logistics Director Harry Boediarto said the transportation and logistics sector is now entering an era of massive use of digital technology. In some modes of transport, technology has created a distributional effect on conventional business models.

“Now the digital era, we have to go there,” he said when soft launching Pelni Logistic application in Jakarta, Thursday (4/1/2018).

He explained, Pelni Logistic application contains ship schedule information, shipping rates, and cargo tracking. For the first phase up to April 2018, Pelni only serves cargo shipments to 12 cities with three ships, namely Dobonsolo, Ciremai, and Mount Dempo.

After April 2018, cargo ordering service will be served by 25 ships with 96 ports of destination. The type of cargo ordered consists of dry containers of 20 feet, refrigerated containers (reefer container), and four-wheeled vehicles and two wheels.

Harry said, Pelni offers a variety of tariffs, ranging from all in tariff, covering all tariffs from the delivery tariff to the port to the final recipient. Pelni also provides shipping tariff options from the port of origin to the port of destination.

As an illustration, Bisnis.com tries to compare shipping rates from Jakarta to Jayapura using Dempo Ship. The shipping cost of one refrigerated container unit reached Rp58.86 million while the dry container was Rp47.74 million. As for 3B or motorized vehicles above 2,000 cc, Pelni set the tariff of Rp19.21 million and Rp16.29 million for 3A or motorized vehicles up to 2,000cc. For motorcycles, shipping rates set at Rp2, 82 million.
