Dubai Port World – DP World

JAKARTA – The global port operator from the United Arab Emirates, Dubai Port World acquired 66.67% stake in Empresa Brasileira de Terminais Portuários or Embraport, Brazil’s largest privately owned multipurpose terminal. The acquisition of Embraport further strengthens the presence of DP World in Latin America.

Based on the official information released by DP World, Monday (04/12/2017), the acquisition of shares from Odebrecht Transport (OTP) makes DP World own all shares of Embraport. Correspondingly, DP World changed the name or rebranding of Embraport to DP World Santos.

Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO, DP World said the acquisition of Embraport is a manifestation of the group’s commitment to the future of trade in Brazil. Embraport’s addition also adds to the portfolio of terminal managed by DP World in South America.

Currently, DP World has managed terminals in Peru, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Iceland and Suriname. “We remain committed to linking global trade with a broader strategy to complement each other in the world supply chain” explained Sultan Ahmed in an official statement quoted by Bisnis.com, Monday (04/12/2017).

Embraport is one of the container terminals operating in Santos Port, the busiest port in Latin America with 3.4 million container TEUs handled in 2016. Embraport has a 653 meter dock length and 207,000 m2 of congestion field. The facility is worth it to handle 1.2 million TEUs per year.

In general, DP World scored 52.3 million TEUs of container flows in the January-September 2017 period or up 20% compared to the same period last year. This achievement is not separated from the global trade that grew above predictions.

In Indonesia, DP World is also the manager of PT TPS with PT Pelindo III (Persero). DP World owns 49% of TPS shares. However, in April 2019 DP World will submit a share of participation in TPS as the management contract expires.
