Jakarta, CNN Indonesia – The government says farmers in Bali have just exported 11 tons of red rice. The export is done in the middle of government policy to import 500 thousand tons of special rice.

Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman said, in the middle of the polemic about rice imports in the country, farmers in Bali are exporting rice overseas, precisely to the United States.

“This is not normal rice, but brown rice, on January 23, 2018, the first export of 11 tons of red rice to America has been done,” he said on the Facebook page on Friday (26/1).

He explained, from the results of physical inspection and completeness of the document, the brown rice is free from plant pest organism (OPT), so it can be published Phytosanitary Certificate.

“Then red rice from Bali is also through the Port of Tanjung Perak Sea, Surabaya to Oakland, United States,” he added.

Arman explained, red rice (Oryzae glaberima) is one of the food commodities that are hunted and enthused by the public both domestic and foreign.

“This is because the nutrient content in it which is more diverse than white rice is: carbohydrates, fiber, vitamin B, magnesium, phosphorus and calcium and potassium,” said Arman.

The price was, more Arman, higher than white rice. He claimed the agricultural quarantine hall supports by ensuring the exported rice is healthy, safe to consume and in accordance with export requirements of the destination country.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Trade will import special rice in order to keep the stocks and prices of rice that are currently soaring in the market. The plan, imported special rice has a volume of 500 thousand tons and will arrive in Indonesia late January 2018.

Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita said the import move was taken as an effective solution in a short time. According to him, the harvest has started to occur in January and February, only, the amount is still not determined.

“From the supply side, harvest is indeed every day just different amount. It is estimated that from February to March we will fill this gap and we do not want shortage of supply, then we will import special rice, that is rice that is not grown in the country, “said Enggar. (asa)
