• Angkasa Pura II & Banyuwangi Local Government Requested to Cooperate Blimbingsari Airport

    JAKARTA – The Ministry of Transportation through the Directorate General of Civil Aviation gives management rights of Blimbingsari Airport, Banyuwangi from Airport Operator Unit (UPBU) to Director General of Air Transportation to PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero).

    Director General of Air Transportation, Agus Santoso, said that the grant of management rights is aimed at improving the service to aviation consumers in airports both from land and air side.

    He underscored that these efforts are anticipating the growth rate of passengers and cargo, as well as improving services for service users at the airport.

    “I hope the granting of operating rights to PT Angkasa Pura II can be a starting point for the improvement of airport service quality to passengers in order to support economic growth and tourism and to accelerate the distribution of goods,” Agus said in a press release on Friday (22/12).

    In addition, this cooperation can reduce the burden of the state budget, while the APBN funds commonly intended for maintenance and development of Banyuwangi Airport can be reallocated to new airport airports in remote areas to facilitate inter-island connectivity throughout Indonesia.

    “So that prosperity can be achieved thoroughly for the people of Banyuwangi Regency and the Indonesian people widely, and again we emphasize to maintain the safety of flights that have been achieved to date,” said Agus.

    The signing of the grant of management rights was given to the President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II Muhammad Awaluddin and Banyuwangi Regent Abdullah Azwar Anas today, Friday 22 December 2017.

    Agus advised Banyuwangi Regent Abdullah Azwar Anas to get the Banyuwangi government to work together to realize a bigger Airport and to maintain the safety of aviation. He also evaluates, that during the managed by UPBU DGCA proved good and needs to be continued.

    For information, the development and development process and operation of Blimbingsari Airport has been prepared since 2005 gradually by Banyuwangi Local Government and DGCA.

    Construction began in 2005 with a runway measuring 900 meters X 2 meters. Next psda 2006, built a terminal measuring 120 square meters. In 2007 and 2008, successive runways were extended and widened to 1400 meters X 30 meters.

    In 2010, the first commercial aviation flight was operated by Sky Aviation airline with Grand Caravan type aircraft and forwarded by other commercial airlines such as Merpati and Wings Air. In 2012, the runway is extended again to 1800 meters X 30 meters. In 2014, Garuda Indonesia performs its first operational in this Airport.

    In 2015, the extension of the runway to 2,250 meters x 30 meters and built the first green building concept console in Indonesia of 240 square meters that can accommodate about 280 thousand passengers per year. This is to accommodate the growth of passengers in Banyuwangi which in the period 2010 to 2016 has served about 264,689 passengers.

    Until now has operated 3 national airlines in this Airport. First, Garuda Indonesia serves the route Banyuwangi-Surabaya PP with frequency 2 times a day using aircraft type ATR 72-600. Secondly, Wings Air airline serves Banyuwangi-Surabaya PP route with frequency 1 times a day using ATR 72-600 type aircraft. Third, NAM Air airline serves Banyuwangi-Jakarta route through Soekarno-Hatta Airport PP with frequency 2 times a day using Boeing 737-500 type aircraft.

    Blimbingsari Airport currently has complete facilities, namely four taxiway lines and three aprons on the air side. For the land side Blimbingsari Airport has passenger terminal, goods or cargo terminal and other basic and supporting facilities, such as communication and navigation facilities and flight safety and security.
