• Russian arrested at Bali’s airport with nearly 400 grams of hash pills in stomach

A Russian man was arrested after landing at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport with 389.14 grams of cannabis capsules, aka hash pills in his stomach.

Identified by initials AT, the 29-year-old had already been on Ngurah Rai Customs’ radar, so upon arrival, the Russian was flagged to undergo an x-ray scan.

AT touched down in Bali on Jan. 15, but police didn’t publicly disclose the Russian’s case until Friday.

From the x-ray, it was apparent he had something in his stomach, so airport Customs fed him laxatives to release the 63 plastic-wrapped capsules out the other end.

Customs painted a very unambiguous picture of what the “expulsion” looked like after it came out.

“After we opened the plastic, the contents were shaped like brownish black dodol (chewy Indonesian coconut candy), which we later determined was hashish,” said Bali Customs and Excise director, M Syarif Hidayat, as quoted by Republika.

The total weight of the capsules was 389.14 grams, making the Russian subject to charges carrying a minimum imprisonment of five years and maximum term of 15 years and a fine ranging from IDR1 billion (US$73,000) to IDR10 billion (US$730,000).

The hash pills were purchased from Shanghai, according to Bali Police Narcotics Investigation Unit Supt. Sudjarwoko.

Literally caught in the act, Sudjarwoko says AT has already confessed to smuggling the drugs.
