• One of the top earning Airbnb landlords in the world is in Bali, raking in US$15.4 million a year

Guesthouses, villas, shared houses, and other rental properties abound, Airbnb is booming in Bali.

One of the leading Airbnb landlords in the world made US$15.4 million in a single year, by renting out 504 Bali properties on the Indonesian island, research data shows.

That’s not so far behind the Airbnb’s most successful landlord of all, who earned US$15.5 million in a year from renting out his 881 properties across London.

While most Bali landlords aren’t making nearly that much on Airbnb, they’re not doing so bad at all.

The island is the website’s top-earning area, where landlords earn an average annual income of US$41,000, according to data shared by AirDNA.

AirDNA CEO Scott Shatford says that Airbnb is “no longer community just for individuals renting out their space or properties on their own.”

“We’re seeing traditional property management companies operating as many as 1,000 listings,” Shatford told The Telegraph.

“These numbers don’t show a multimillionaire sitting on a gold mine. These are businesses that have emerged in this new economy, with hundreds of employees, managing other people’s second homes.”

Globally, the breakdown of Airbnb hosts is about 65 percent individuals and 35 percent management firms, according to AirDNA data.

Other Airbnb landlords at the top of the income ladder are in Tokyo, Cape Town, Paris, Havana, Sydney, Barcelona, Madrid, and Melbourne.
