Fire Destroys Building in Bali’s Governor Office Complex

    (2/18/2018)

A building at the Governor’s office complex in central Denpasar was consumed by fire on Tuesday, February 13, 2018. The fire took place in Building No. 5 housing the Law Bureau for the Province of Bali. In the course of the inferno, all rooms on the second floor (the Law Bureau and Human Rights Division) and on the third floor (The Governance Bureau) were destroyed.

Beritabali.com reports that 12 fire trucks responded to the fire, plus two water cannon trucks deployed from police headquarters,

Information from an employee of the Provincial Government reports the fire is believed to have started on the 2nd floor in the Law Bureau and Human Rights Divisions.

Governor Made Mangku Pastika quickly arrived at the location that is close to his office. Governor Pastika said the burnt structure was an old building, dismissing any suggestions of sabotage or arson. “The is none of that (sabotage). A fire can happen anywhere, even in our own homes. That building (Building No. 5) is old, I don’t know exactly, but it was built during the term of office of Professor (Ida Bagus) Mantra,” explained Pastika.

The Governor also explained that the burnt out building no longer housed any significant archival material that had long ago been moved to another location.
