A group of 12 prisoners will be transferred from Bali’s Kerobokan to Central Java prison island, Nuskambangan on Friday.

All the prisoners checking out of Bali’s “Hotel K”, have links to ormas, mass organizations and/or the illegal drug trade, local media reports.

Bali Police Chief. Insp. Petrus Reinhard Golose confirmed the transfer on Tuesday morning.

“On August 25, there will be a transfer of prisoners who are associated with ormas, there will be 12 people transferred,” Golose said, as quoted by Tribun Bali.

    “Hopefully it will go smoothly.”

According to Golose, the transfer is done as a message of deterrence, cautioning others not to take action to ‘harm’ the people of Bali.

Sometimes referred to as “Execution Island,” or the “Alcatraz of Indonesia,” Nusakambangan island is home to a handful of different prisons, infamous for their max security status, housing serious criminals from terrorists to drug traffickers, and murderers. The island is one of the main sites where capital punishment is carried out in Indonesia and was where Bali Nine Australians Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran were executed in April 2015.
