Tourism Ministry Invites Chinese Media to Bali to See First-Hand that Bali Remains Safe

The Assistant Deputy for development of the Asia-Pacific Market from the Ministry of Tourism, Vinsensius Jemadu, recently welcomed a familiarization trip of Bali for 9 member of the Mainland Chinese Market.

As reported by Kompas.com, the “fam trip” was intended to promote the theme of “Wonderful Indonesia” in order to stimulate Chinese tourism to Bali by demonstrating that Bali remains a safe destination.

Jemadu, speaking before a press conference, said that incorrect news that Mount Agung had already erupted was being reported to the Chinese public and needs to be rectified in order to maintain the high level of desire among that market to travel to Bali.

“By hosting ‘fam trips’ such as these, we wish to convince people that Bali remains a safe place to visit,” said Vensensius Jemadu on Monday, October 23, 2017. Earlier, Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika had explained that if an actual eruption of Mount Agung takes place, a danger zone measuring 12-kilometers from the Mountain’s peak has been evacuated to prevent the loss of life and injuries.

The Government has also formed Bali Tourism Hospitality Center within the Bali Tourism Board to assist tourists should an eruption of Mount Agung occur. In the meantime, tourism objects in Bali continue to operate normally.

Jemadu the “fam trip” was just one of a number of activities underway to help Indonesia hit a target of 2 million Chinese tourists to Indonesia from among the total 15 million foreign tourist targeted nation-wide.

The Tourism Ministry official, referring to the hosting of members of the Chinese media, said: “The online media in China is very influential. Young people use online media to obtain information on Bali tourism.”

During the tour of Bali, the Chinese media workers visited village settings in Ubud, saw a cultural performance in Uluwatu, and sampled the culinary offerings of Jimbaran and Seminyak. During a tour of the Nusa Dua area, the Chinese journalists also participated in water sports activities at Tanjung Benoa.

Chinese visitors to Bali passed the one million mark at the end of August, achieving 1,048,270. Compared to the same period one year before, Mainland Chinese tourists visits have increased 58.48%.

Nation-wide, Chinese visitors to Indonesian prefer visits to Bali, Jakarta, Tanjung Uban, Batam and Manado.

According to information from the Indonesian Tourism Ministry, Chinese tourists dedicate their holidays to water sports, beach visits, touring, shopping and dining.
