Bali Intercont Cargo ready to export your goods to overseas destination.

There are several options in regards to shipping a container of cargo overseas. It’s not as easy as calling Fed-Ex to come and pick it up. In order to ship a container overseas it is best to have a freight forwarder or customs broker handle the shipment. They can make sure that an empty container arrives at the place of origin for easy loading.

In order to obtain international shipping rates you will need to know the dimensions of the cargo that you are shipping, quantity and weight. Once you have that information you can start getting quotes on sea freight. If shipping a full container, there are a few sizes to choose from.

    Container Sizes:

    • 20 ft
    • 40 ft
    • 40 ft High Cube
    • Other Specialized Equipment (Refrigerated, Flat Rack and more)

Once the container is loaded, it is then trucked to a port for shipping overseas. Depending on the distance from origin to the port, the trucking company may drop off the container to have a train take it the rest of the way to the port. Once the container arrives at the port to be shipped internationally, a crane will take it off of the truck and load it onto a vessel.

Containers are secured on the boat and generally take about one month to arrive at its destination. Shipping times will obviously vary depending on weather conditions and distance from port to port. If you have freight that needs to be shipped internationally faster than one to one and a half months, then a better option is air freight. Your freight forwarder will be able to arrange for this as well if needed.

When a container arrives at the destination port paperwork will have to be filed with the respective government describing the goods that are being imported. If importing into the Unites States, a customs clearance is required in order for freight to be released for delivery. It is always advisable to have a customs broker file an entry on the importer’s behalf.

A customs broker will classify imported freight and submit required documents to Customs and Boarder Protection to obtain a customs clearance. Certain types of freight are required to submit additional documentation to other government agencies to obtain a customs clearance. For example, food and other perishables will need to be cleared through the FDA in order to be imported. Live animals need to be cleared through Fish and Wildlife.

Once imported freight has cleared customs it is released for delivery it’s the destination. A customs broker or freight forwarder can arrange for containers to be delivered on time and without damage.
